I have had a few comments about the time it takes for this site to load. The majority of people don't seem to be having a problem but anyone not being able to see stuff or it taking ages to load concerns me!
I use firefox as my main internet browser but i regularly check it on Internet Explorer as i know that causes problems for loading and viewing pictures sometimes. It seems to load fine for me there as well.
So when you say it takes ages to load, how long do you mean? and for those who cant see pictures does refreshing the page help? finally what internet browser are you using?

I use firefox also. And when I go to the page the side bars come up immediately but the body takes about 30 sec to a min(sometimes more) to load after.
ReplyDeleteIE here, and it takes about two minutes or so, I just figure it's because you have so much to say, and it's worth the wait.
ReplyDeleteOh dear! That is crap!
ReplyDeleteIt takes under 20 secs on firefox and IE for me, i have no idea what the problem is? I will look into it further!
Thanks for letting me know :)
It looks like you're using a template from thrbrtemplates.blogspot.com? If you're using the latest version of Downright Blogger theme.. it has a problem that the main column doesn't load fast.. I used that template on another blog and had the same problem. So now I'm using an older version that loads correctly.
ReplyDeletetook about 45 seconds this morning, some people will never read your stuff if it takes that long. I use firefox.......
ReplyDeleteI use IE and it loads immediately.
ReplyDeleteSome of the slower may need to clean out their cache and temp files. I know that can severely slow things down.
Hey Dee you right, the main column is fluid so it fits everyones screen nicely apparently? If i get many more complaints i will have to change it!
ReplyDeleteHey Sarge, dont leave :(
Thanks Jamie :)
it takes longer than skittles now honey. you are the champion of slow loaders. i see both sides, then the middle f i n a l l y.... using firefox and i did a really good cleanup of my computer last night so it's not that. just too many things? don't know. but will wait for you claire, don't worry! i won't cock off! ha ha ha ha ha crikey...

Hey you! Just putting my 2 cents in here.... it loads just fine for me - hardly a second or two. Skittles (for me anyway) takes at least 30 sec or more. I have a high speed connection and use FF.
ReplyDeleteAlot of times I think it is actually PPP badges and stuff - when their site is running slow everyone who is linked to them loads slow.
It loads OK for me on BT broadband, but I'll tell you exactly what the problem is: third party widgets and banners.
ReplyDeleteThis is why you don't see so many on my blogs: If the other party's server is playing up, your blog may not load at all.
I would dump 'TheGoodBlogs' as they are the slowest around and choose between MBL and blogcatalog widget-you don't need both.
Be as ruthless as you can, every image and link you add, adds more milliseconds to the load time.
Claire, it varies for me between 20 sec and 2 min. I use IE7 and have the status bar showing, so I think I know what the problem is. The blog loads the sidebar widgets before it loads the main column. When it's slow, the my status bar usually shows that it's waiting for your outside content. it's not bad with a fact connection, but I'd hate to load it with dial-up.
ReplyDeleteThe sidebars do load quicker for me than the centre. I'm on IE7 and on your post above some of the letters in the centre column have disappeared under the right hand sidebar.
ReplyDeleteIt loads pretty fast for me. I'm a FireFox fan as you know and am on cable.
ReplyDeleteWhere my blog bogs down is with the blogrolls.
seems a little better now claire! good show you little minger (?) did i get that right claire?

Claire adding the photo header has just slowed me down by about 15 seconds but worth the wait hun, thanks x x x All good things come to those who wait x x x
ReplyDeleteLike everyone else, the sides load right away and then the middle seems to take close to a minute or so. I use Firefox, too. I don't mind waiting as it gives me time to peruse your sidebars, though!
ReplyDeleteI'm still on the raggy old dial-up so no matter which browser I use - firefox or IE - it can be really REALLY slow for me to load almost any blog. Waiting 15-30, even 45 seconds is nothing in my opinion considering even on firefox, it may take me upwards of five minutes for Skittle's blog to come through. I just go play some solitaire or wash dishes or whatever then while I wait. Aren't I the wonderful little old multi-tasker though?
ReplyDeleteAnd about the MEME - don't go getting all uptight about it kiddo. If you have time to do it and want to, fine and if not, that's okay too by me! I'll still come back and lurk and then surprise you with a comment now and again. But remember, I do generally lurk almost every day or I try to do that anyway.
